New Mexico Billboard Causes Stir

A New Mexico man has posted a provocative pro-life billboard on the main thoroughfare in Alamogordo. The billboard, which is on White Sands Boulevard and has been up since mid-May, shows the man holding the outline of an infant near a playground and the words: "This Would Have Been A Picture Of My 2-Month Old Baby If The Mother Had Decided To Not Kill Our Child."
Greg Fultz, age 35, says that his ex-girlfriend's decision to have an abortion against his wishes prompted the billboard. "I just wanted to shed the light on pro-life issues and fathers' rights. I have had no closure over my own personal loss and that's where the billboard came into play," he said. Fultz's ex-girlfriend has taken him to court for harassment and violation of privacy.

Some Reasons We Know Abortion is Wrong

No debate in social or religious circles stirs greater emotions than the
so-called abortion rights discussion. Both sides are passionate about their
idealogical positions. The pro-abortionists are adamant in their defense of
the mother's rights. They say the mother's body is just that; her body, and
she has the right to decide what lives or dies inside of it. But this argument
overlooks a very important fact: the baby's body is not the mother's body.
The child is a separate person; a distinct individual having his own body,
soul, and mind with the implicit right to life. The anti-abortionists are
equally as adamant, defending the right of the unborn child to be born into
the world.

Abortion is wrong because it is the process by which an innocent unborn
human being is murdered. All thinking people must admit that the child in the
mother's womb has done nothing worthy of death. The child has not committed
any capital crime against humanity. (Acts 25:10-11) I have never understood
why abortionists have no objections against murdering unborn babies, yet many
of them object to putting murderers to death. Isn't it strange that they defend the
mother's right to take the life of her unborn child, and in the next breath they
defend the murderer's right to life? Abortion advocates support and encourage
the murder of innocent people known as babies. (Rev. 21:8)

Abortion is wrong because it denies the humanity of the baby that is in
the mother's womb. Most abortionists use "code words" that are designed to
desensitize peoples' hearts. Rarely do they speak of "human life in the womb."
Instead they speak of an " embryo," "mass," "substance," or "material" in the
womb. God's word teaches that conception is not merely the beginning of life
in the womb, but it is human life. That which is in the womb of the mother is
called "a baby." (Luke 1:41,44) I wonder if abortion would continue to
constitute a blood bath in this nation, if those who practice it, were to realize
that they are killing babies, little human beings?

Abortion is wrong because it proceeds from a heart that is as cold as
the graves of the forgotten dead; as thoughtless as the stones on the bottom
of the sea; and as bloodthirsty as wolves fighting over the fallen carcass of
a lamb! How can a mother love herself yet give her own unborn baby up
to be slaughtered by the merciless hands of one who is under oath to
preserve life? Is it not time for modern mothers to learn a lesson from the
case of the two prostitutes who stood before king Solomon? (1 Ki. 3:16-28)
A "real" mother loves the child that is in her womb and that comes forth from
her womb. She will do all within her power to preserve the child's life. Paul,
the apostle of the Lord, wrote about people who are " lovers of themselves"
and "without love" for others. (2 Tim. 3:2-3; NIV 2011) Surely the
current state of this nation as it relates to the abortion issue reflects the
mindset about which Paul wrote.

Abortion and Women's Rights

A perceptive reader of this blog forwarded me an email that warned in bold print: "Republicans are waging an all-out war on women." The email was sent from Emily's List, which according to its website is "a community of progressive Americans dedicated to electing pro-choice Democratic women to every level of office."

According to the email, Republicans are "viciously assaulting" women because they want to defund abortion providers like Planned Parenthood. Supporters are urged to sign a petition in opposition to the women-hating, rights-denying Republicans.

This is yet another ploy by pro-abortion forces to convince women that there is an attack on their rights. They leave the impression that Planned Parenthood is a beacon of "freedom" and "liberty" for women, and that those who oppose government funding of such a perilous organization are somehow trying to suppress women and take away their rights. The woman who forwarded the email to me was smarter than that. I think other women are smarter than that, too!

Inspections Uncover More Atrocities in PA

In the wake of the egregious discoveries made at Dr. Gosnell's "house of horrors" in Philadelphia, state health officials renewed inspections of abortion clinics across Pennsylvania. The inspections uncovered more atrocities, especially at two clinics operated by Dr. Soleiman M. Soli.

At Dr. Soli's clinics, health officials found fetal tissue in unsecured containers, drugs that were decades past their expiration dates, uncapped medications and syringes on the floor, non-certified and inoperable pieces of equipment, and sterile trays of instruments that were not wrapped properly. Officials also learned that patients were routinely discharged while groggy. A secretary said they walked out as if in "a drunken state."

Dr. Soli, who received his degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences in Iran, had been sued for malpractice at least six times since 1981. Rather than take corrective action to clean up his clinics in Bensalem and the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Soli abruptly retired.

"This is a prime example of where an abortionist would rather close down his seedy abortion operation rather than go to the trouble to clean it up," said Troy Newman, President of the pro-life organization Operation Rescue. "This attitude displays a gross lack of concern for the health and safety of women, since he would have been glad to keep operating under dangerous conditions if the Health Department had not stepped in."

Of course, the greatest atrocity is the fact that countless unborn boys and girls were brutally murdered in Dr. Soli's clinics for decades.

SoHo Billboard: Provocative & True

A new billboard in the SoHo neighborhood of Manhatton (NY) features an adorable black child and the words "The most dangerous place for an African American is in the womb." It is designed to raise public awareness of the fact that Planned Parenthood and its minions target minority communities.

The billboard is sponsored by Life Always and was timed to coincide with Black History Month. "We celebrate our history, but our future is in jeopardy as a genocidal plot is carried out through abortion," said Stephen Broden, a Life Always official.

Statistics show that abortion rates are much higher among blacks than others. For instance, although African Americans only comprise about 13% of the population, black women account for nearly 37% of all aboritons. The abortion rate among African Americans in New York City is almost 60 percent!

More African American babies have been killed by abortion since 1973 than the total number of African American deaths from AIDS, violent crimes, accidents, cancer, and heart disease combined. A staggering 13 million African American lives have been lost to abortion.

Planned Parenthood is the largest abortion provider in the nation. 78% of its clinics are located in minority communities. Is that just coincidence? It is time we stop ignoring this harsh reality.

[Addendum: Due to harassment from pro-abortion forces the billboard was abruptly removed. However, the billboard was successful in its mission to draw attention to this important issue.]

Answering Pro-Choice Arguments

There are several common arguments that people make in favor of abortion. Therefore, it is important that we answer the arguments in a way that is sensible and convincing.

        (1) A woman has a right to control her own body. While it is true that a woman should control her own body, the baby's body is not her own. It is a different body with a genetic code that differs from the mother's. A woman's body does not have two hearts, heads, and blood types. And what if she is pregnant with a male child? Obviously his body differs from hers. In most cases, the woman got pregnant by not controlling her own body.

        (2) We cannot know if the fetus is a human being. If that is so, shouldn't the benefit of the doubt go to preserving life? As President Ronald Reagan said, "I have often said that when we talk about abortion, we are talking about two lives--the life of the mother and the life of the unborn child. Why else do we call a pregnant woman a mother? I have also said that anyone who doesn't feel sure whether we are talking about a second human life should clearly give life the benefit of the doubt. If you don't know whether a body is alive or dead, you would never bury it. I think this consideration itself should be enough for all of us to insist on protecting the unborn" (Abortion and the Conscience of the Nation).

        (3) It is better to abort a child than abuse one. Abortion is the worst form of child abuse. What could be more abusive than cutting someone into pieces with scissors or burning them to death with poison? Abortion procedures are so cruel and inhumane that the most vile criminals on death row would not be subjected to such treatment.

        (4) We cannot impose our morality on others. Wouldn't this same argument apply to murder or rape? Our nation was founded on morality. Those who make this argument are the very people trying to impose their immorality on others!

        (5) People are going to have abortions anyway. Again, this argument could apply to murder or rape. Because people are going to murder anyway, should we go ahead and legalize murder? Laws do affect behavior and change attitudes.

        (6) Rape victims should be able to abort the child. The violence of abortion parallels the violence of rape. Why should the innocent child suffer the death penalty for the actions of his father? Abortion will not bring healing to the woman, it will only add to the shame. Less than 1% of abortions are performed as a result of rape.

        (7) If we outlaw abortions, many women will die in back alleys. The number of mothers who may die in back alleys trying to have an abortion pales in comparison to the number of babies who die each day in abortion clinics. Since the Roe v. Wade decision, more than 50 million babies have been killed in this country.

        (8) You support the death penalty. Capital punishment is rooted in a respect for innocent human life. There is a vast difference between punishing a convicted murderer and killing an innocent child. God supports the death penalty and opposes abortion.

There are probably other arguments that people make, but these eight are the most common ones. There is no good reason to have an abortion. Give life a chance!

President Obama and Abortion

President Barack Obama is impressive in many ways. He is articulate, charming, intelligent, and personable. It is easy to become mesmerized by his smooth words and friendly smile. However, the fact remains that President Obama is the most pro-abortion President in our nation's history.

As a United States Senator, Obama had a 100% pro-abortion voting record. He even co-sponsored the Senate version of the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), which would repeal the ban on partial birth abortion and do away with nearly every restriction on the awful practice. It would also allow pregnant teens to have an abortion without parental notification, eliminate waiting periods, and pressure medical staffs to perform abortions even if they are pro-life. Obama told a Planned Parenthood group in 2007, "The first thing I'd do as President is sign the Freedom of Choice Act."

As President, Obama lifted a ban that prohibited giving federal money to international groups that perform or promote abortion, appointed numerous abortion activists to important positions, and recently issued a statement in commemoration of the 38th anniversary of Roe v. Wade that reaffirmed his commitment to abortion rights. As Albert Mohler correctly noted, "The President's statement included not one word that indicated any recognition that abortion is in any case or in any sense a tragedy. There was not even a passing reference to the unborn child. President Obama did not even use the language used disingenuously by President Bill Clinton--the pledge that abortion should be 'safe, legal, and rare'" (In His Own Words: A Radical Pro-Abortion President).

It has been said that words are merely vessels on which the thoughts of the heart travel. If that is so, perhaps the words of Obama at a town hall meeting during the last campaign reveal his true feelings about unwanted babies. He told the crowd that he would not want his daughters "punished with a baby." Compare that to Psalm 127:3.

As I said... the most pro-abortion President in our nation's history.

"Jane Roe" Speaks Candidly

Norma McCorvey
Norma McCorvey was the plaintiff in Roe v. Wade. She was pregnant with her third child when she filed suit challenging Texas state law prohibiting abortion. She was represented by Sarah Weddington and Linda Coffee, two activist lawyers. They were looking for someone with whom they could challenge state law on abortion when they met McCorvey.

The case eventually made its way to the Supreme Court. In the meantime, McCorvey gave birth to the child and put her up for adoption. The Court finally ruled on her case in January 1973. It was a decision that shook the moral foundations of this nation.

Norma McCorvey is now pro-life and works tirelessly to reverse the Court's decision. Sandra Cano, the plaintiff in Doe v. Bolton, is also pro-life. It is remarkable that "Jane Roe" and "Mary Doe" are now opposed to the decisions they helped secure. For that, I am thankful.

In an interview with Brad Harrub and Jim Palmer in the July 2006 issue of Think, McCorvey talked about how she became "Jane Roe" and other experiences, including her experiences at an abortion clinic. She recalled asking a woman how many times she had ended a pregnancy by abortion. The woman replied, "Oh seven or eight, who counts?" McCorvey also remembered a woman who came for an abortion because the baby was not the sex she wanted. "I had another woman who came into a doctor's office. She said she had had some sort of test and she found out she was going to have a little girl and she wanted a little boy. So why have the baby at all?"

McCorvey also described what happened to the bodies after an abortion. She said, "We had a truck that would come once a week. And they would take arms, and legs, and heads, and torsos. Sometimes someone would think they were doing something really funny and put all the hands together, all the feet together, all the legs together, or all the heads together. This was a very sick guy... I've seen children's tiny little bodies cut up and sloughed on the floor like cord wood. And the stench was awful."

From the above interview, we once again see the grim truth about what really takes place at abortion clinics. Abortions are used for birth control and gender selection. Then the bodies of innocent children are discarded carelessly.

Teenager Mistakenly Given Abortion Drug in Colorado

Mareena Silva
A pregnant teenager named Mareena Silva was mistakenly given an abortion drug and may lose her first baby. Silva, who is six weeks pregnant, went to a Safeway pharmacy in Ft. Lupton, Colorado to pick up an antibiotic, but was given methotrexate instead. Methotrexate is used in chemotherapy and to terminate early-stage pregnancies.

The mistake was not noticed until Silva became nauseated. She was then rushed to the Platte Valley Medical Center and given charcoal to absorb the methotrexate. Doctors told Silva that she may miscarry or have a baby with birth defects. "This is my first child, so it's really difficult to deal with," said Silva.

According to Mike Cohen, president of the Institute for Safe Medicine Practice, methotrexate mix-ups have caused 26 to 30 deaths in recent years. Safeway released a statement that said in part, "We have extended our sincere apologies to Ms. Silva and offered to pay any medical expenses incurred as a result of the prescription error." Unfortunately, no amount of money can save her baby.

Silenced Cries: A Study of Abortion

Abortion is an issue that can hardly be ignored in this country. It plays a decisive role in local elections, in national elections, and in the nomination of judges to the Supreme Court. Each year hundreds of thousands of people participate in demonstrations and rallies to either protect or end the practice of abortion. The issue of abortion has prompted articles, books, sermons, speeches, yard signs, bumper stickers, billboards, websites, etc. It is truly the hot-button issue of the day.
This writer is passionately pro-life. The purpose of this blog is to draw attention to the issue of abortion. I have also written a book which is featured to the left. If you are interested in it, visit http://www.erhardtpublications.com/.

The War Rages in Wichita

Dr. George Tiller
Wichita, Kansas has long been a focal point in the war on abortion. It was home to the clinic of Dr. George Tiller, one of only three abortionists in the country who specialized in late-term abortions. His willingness to abort babies very late in the pregnancy garnered national attention and earned him the infamous title "Tiller the Baby Killer."

For years, peaceful protesters routinely opposed the practices of Dr. Tiller, and pressure from civil authorities was mounting against him. However, on May 31, 2009 a lone gunman took matters into his own hands and killed the abortionist.

Although Tiller was a killer of babies, the gunman was wrong for taking personal vengeance on him. God ordained civil authorities to punish wrongdoers (Romans 13:1-4), not private citizens. The fact that the authorities had failed to punish Tiller up to that point does not give one the right to act presumptuously.

Since the death of Dr. Tiller, the wearied city of Wichita has been free from abortions. That may soon change, however, if a family practitioner gets her way. Dr. Mila Means, who has been training once a month at an abortion clinic in Kansas City, plans to start performing abortions at her clinic in Wichita. The only thing stopping her is a temporary restraining order.

Foliage Development, Inc., filed suit against Dr. Means because of a provision in her lease that prohibits "creating a clear nuisance to and disturbing the peaceful possession of all other tenants." Three tenants have already threatened to move if abortions are done there.

It is unclear whether or not the court will allow Dr. Means to perform abortions at her current location. She may have to move elsewhere within the city. One thing that is clear, however, is the long fight ahead. "Whoever thinks they can set up an abortion business in Wichita has seriously underestimated the resolve of this community to remain abortion free," said Operation Rescue President Troy Newman. "All peaceful and legal means will be used to prevent the further loss of innocent life by abortion in a community that is more than weary of it." And so, the war rages in Wichita.

[Addendum: An AP article, dated Feb. 14, states that Dr. Means has agreed not to perform abortions at her current location, delaying the lawsuit by her landlord. Means is seeking alternative office space.]

Dr. Gosnell, the House of Horrors, and Sunday Babies

Dr. Gosnell's clinic
A Philadelphia abortionist named Dr. Kermit Gosnell has been charged with eight counts of murder in the deaths of a woman and seven babies who were born alive and then killed with scissors. Nine of his employees, including his wife, were also charged.

District Attorney Seth Williams said that Gosnell, who is suspected of killing hundreds of living babies, "induced labor, forced the live birth of viable babies in the sixth, seventh, eighth month of pregnancy and then killed those babies by cutting into the back of the neck with scissors and severing their spinal cord." The woman died from an overdose of painkillers.

Gosnell's "house of horrors" was uncovered when authorities raided his clinic on drug-related complaints and found the remains of aborted babies scattered throughout the building. The clinic reeked of cat urine, instruments were not properly sterilized, and disposable medical supplies were used over and over.

Below is an excerpt from the lengthy grand jury report.

...one was Baby Boy A. His 17-year-old mother was almost 30 weeks pregnant -- seven and a half months -- when labor was induced. An employee estimated his birth weight as approaching six pounds. He was breathing and moving when Dr. Gosnell severed his spine and put the body in a plastic shoebox for disposal. The doctor joked that this baby was so big he could "walk me to the bus stop." Another, Baby Boy B, whose body was found at the clinic frozen in a one-gallon spring-water bottle, was at least 28 weeks of gestational age when he was killed. Baby C was moving and breathing for 20 minutes before an assistant came in and cut the spinal cord, just the way she had seen Gosnell do it so many times.
And these were not even the worst cases. Gosnell made little effort to hide his illegal abortion practices. But there were some, "the really big ones," that even he was afraid to perform in front of others. These abortions were scheduled for Sundays, a day when the clinic was closed and none of the regular employees were present. Only one person was allowed to assist with these special cases -- Gosnell's wife. The files for these patients were not kept at the office; Gosnell took them home with him and disposed of them. We may never know the details of these cases. We do know, however, that, during the rest of the week, Gosnell routinely aborted and killed babies in the sixth and seventh month of pregnancy. The Sunday babies must have been bigger still.
Some may dismiss Gosnell as a "rogue" abortionist. However, there have been other reports of abortionists performing illegal late-term abortions and killing babies who were born alive. For instance, Dr. Pierre Jean-Jacques Renelique was sued by a Florida woman who claimed that her baby girl was put into a plastic biohazard bag and thrown into the trash as she struggled to survive. A police search later found the decomposing body of a baby in a cardboard box and an autopsy showed that the baby had filled her lungs with air prior to death.

We must understand that abortionists have been trained to end life. It should not surprise us that those who can so easily kill babies in the womb also have the audacity to kill them out of the womb. Even the Sunday babies!

Endangered Species? Billboard Seeks to Save Black Babies

A massive campaign featuring the above billboard was launched by Radiance Foundation and Georgia Right to Life in Atlanta last year to call attention to the fact that black women have a disproportionately high number of abortions.

According to the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, black women have about 37% of all abortions nationwide, which is staggering when one considers that African Americans are only about 13% of the population. In Georgia, black women account for over 50% of all abortions.

"Let me put it this way," said Catherine Davis, minority outreach director for Georgia Right to Life, "18,870,000 black babies have been aborted since Roe vs. Wade. If those babies hadn't been aborted, we would be 59 million strong -- over 19% of the population."

The New York Times reported on January 6, 2011 that the abortion rate among black women in New York City is about 60%. That means, of course, that six out of ten black pregnancies in that city are terminated.

Many believe that pro-abortion forces prey upon black women. The Los Angeles Times reported that "an increasingly vocal segment of the antiabortion community has embraced the idea that black women are targeted for abortion in an effort to keep the black population down." While that may or may not be true, one thing that cannot be denied is the heavy concentration of abortion clinics in black communities.

The above billboard has also been featured in other cities. Let us pray that efforts like this one will succeed in turning all women from abortion.

Where God Stands on Abortion

"Where do you stand on abortion?" Each of us will fall into one of three categories in answer to that question. We will either support abortion, oppose abortion, or be neutral. The more important question, however, is this: "Where does God stand on abortion?" The answer to that question is easily determined by scripture.

When Mary went to visit her relative Elizabeth, we read, "And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, 'Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy" (Luke 1:41-44). Notice that the word "baby" is used to describe the unborn child in Elizabeth's womb. That is the same word (brephos) used to describe a child after birth (Luke 2:12). Hence, God views those in the womb and those out of the womb the same -- both are babies!

When Rebekah was pregnant with twins, we read, "The children struggled together within her, and she said, 'If it is thus, why is this happening to me?' So she went to inquire of the Lord" (Genesis 25:22). Notice that the word "children" is used to describe the unborn twins. That is the same word (ben) used to describe a child after birth (Genesis 21:7). Hence, God views those in the womb and those out of the womb the same -- both are children!

Some argue that abortion is not murder because the fetus has not yet received the "breath of life" spoken of in Genesis 2:7. However, that passage speaks specifically about Adam, one who sprang into existence fully grown having been formed from the dust of the ground. That was a unique situation. The rest of us receive the "breath of life" long before we begin to breathe independently of our mothers. We breathe (i.e., receive oxygen) through our mothers from the moment of conception.

In Exodus 21:22-25, the law addressed a situation in which a pregnant woman was accidentally struck during a fight. If neither the woman nor the child was harmed, a fine was levied against the man who struck her. However, if the woman or child died, the man was to be executed -- life for life! This passage clearly considers the unborn child to be a human being.

It is interesting to note that in the above passage, the law was addressing a situation in which injury or death occurred accidentally. Abortion is a deliberate termination of the child's life. If God dealt that severely with the accidental death of an unborn child, how do you suppose He feels about the deliberate death of an unborn child?

God has a special relationship with the unborn (Job 10:8-12; Psalm 139:13-16; Jeremiah 1:4-5). No conception ever occurs that is not the result of His creative purpose (Genesis 17:16; 21:2; Ruth 4:13). Obviously, God opposes abortion!

Harrison's Abortion Clinic

Dr. William F. Harrison
On November 29, 2005 an article entitled "Offering Abortion, Rebirth" appeared in the Los Angeles Times. The article was written by Stephanie Simon and featured a prominent abortionist named Dr. William F. Harrison of Fayetteville, Arkansas. Harrison began performing abortions shortly after the Supreme Court's decision in 1973, and he estimates that he has terminated "at least 20,000 pregnancies."

Harrison has no problem calling himself an "abortionist" and readily admits, "I am destroying life." He is also quoted as saying, "It's not a baby to me until the mother tells me it's a baby." Harrison has convinced himself that by taking life he is also giving life. He says, "When you end what the woman considers a disastrous pregnancy, she has literally been given her life back." He even borrows the biblical expression "born again" to describe his patients.

In the article, we are introduced to several women visiting the clinic. One woman was a 35-year-old named Kim. She was in for her "second abortion in two years." We are also introduced to 20-year-old Amanda, who says, "It's not like I'm doing anything wrong." She attributes her strength to have an abortion to prayer, adding, "I really believe God has a plan for us all. I have a choice, and that's part of my plan." Amanda never even told the father of her child nor her parents with whom she lives that she was pregnant.

Sarah, age 23, became pregnant while planning her wedding. She remarks, "I don't think my dress would have fit with a baby in there." Stephanie, age 32, has had "four abortions in the last 12 years." She calls abortion "a bummer, but no big stress." A high school volleyball player says she doesn't want to give up her body for nine months, and an 18-year-old says she wants to have "a good life."

A 17-year-old in for a consultation assures the nurse that she does not consider the unborn child to be a baby. "Not until it's developed," she says. The nurse tries to ease the girl by replying, "Yours is more like a chicken yolk." The girl then concludes, "Then no, it's not a baby." The girl's mother was crying over in the corner.

Harrison delivered 6,000 babies before giving up obstetrics in 1991. However, he tells Simon that he has no plans to give up the practice of killing them. The article ends with a promise by Harrison to continue performing abortions and the sobering words: "Three abortions before lunch and three more after: The appointment book is always full."

[Addendum: Dr. Harrison died on September 24, 2010 at the age of 75. An article on Daily Kos called Harrison "an outspoken atheist."]

The Insanity of Abortion

In the November 2004 edition of Harper's Magazine, Cynthia Gorney wrote an article entitled "Gambling with abortion: Why both sides think they have everything to lose." It states that the late Dr. James McMahon of Los Angeles "had made a speciality of performing late intacts and then bringing the fetuses to women who had asked to see them." His widow, Gale McMahon, told Gorney, "Having it intact was a goal, so they could do that, and have this closure." She then went on to say, "I knew what it meant to these women, to be able to hold them, and be able to coo over them and say goodbye. It was profound. I got material, and sewed little tiny sheaths, and we got tiny hats we could dress them in. I would put them on a clean cloth, and I would swathe them. Many women spent hours in there, and showed them to their other children. It was always treating the babies with the respect the parents would want them to."

What! Here are mothers who kill their babies and then want to "hold them" and "coo over them." Just moments after the abortion they dress the baby up and show it to their other children. And what is this talk about treating the baby with "respect?"

An article by John Hooper entitled "Italian police to investigate abortion of wrong twin" states that doctors in Italy killed the wrong baby during an abortion. The twins had changed places in the womb just before the procedure. The mother returned to the hospital to have the remaining baby aborted and then reported the doctors to police. The same article states that a baby was aborted during the 22nd week of pregnancy at a hospital in Florence "because of suspected deformities." However, when it was discovered that the baby was not deformed "it was rescuscitated and survived for a brief period."

An abortionist in Philadelphia was charged with severing the spinal cords of babies that were born alive. He is suspected of "killing hundreds of living babies" over the course of his 30-year practice. Tammy Skinner was full-term when she shot herself in the stomach to abort her child in Virginia. Since she technically did not "kill the fetus of another," as the law states, the case was dismissed. A couple in Australia aborted twin boys because they want a baby girl. "Gendercide" is literally taking place in parts of China and India. With lists like this, insanity may be an understatement!

Informed Decisions Save Lives

On February 2, 2005 an article entitled "Church Groups Turn to Sonogram to Turn Women From Abortions" appeared in The New York Times. It was written by Neela Banerjee, and highlighted the effectiveness of ultrasound machines in changing the minds of women seeking an abortion. Below is an excerpt of the article.
Sixteen months ago, Andrea Brown, 24 years old and unmarried, was desperate for an abortion, fearing the disappointment of her parents and the humiliation she might face.
While frantically searching the telephone book one day, she came across the Bowie Crofton Pregnancy Center and Medical Clinic, a church-financed organization that provides counseling and education about sexual abstinence. The receptionist told Ms. Brown that the clinic did not perform abortions or make referrals but that she could come in for an ultrasound to make sure her six-and-a-half-week pregnancy was viable. When she did, everything changed.
"When I had the sonogram and heard the heartbeat -- and for me a heartbeat symbolizes life -- after that there was no way I could do it," Ms. Brown said recently as she revisited the clinic and watched her daughter, Elora, now 9 months old, play at her feet.
Here was a woman who wanted an abortion. Yet an ultrasound changed her mind and saved a life. The article says that a survey found "that those using counseling alone reported persuading 70 percent of women considering abortion to abandon the idea. In centers with ultrasound machines, that number jumped to 90 percent."

It is no surprise that pro-abortion forces oppose legislation that would require a woman considering abortion to have an ultrasound. They know that the more informed the woman is in making her decision, the less likely she is to choose abortion. They want the woman to make a quick decision without all the facts. Truly, informed decisions save lives!

Abortion: The Lesser Evil?

On June 30, 2010 an article entitled "Yes, abortion is killing. But it's the lesser evil" appeared in The Times [London]. It was written by Antonia Senior, a devoted feminist. Her perspective on the abortion issue is very telling.

Senior affirms that from conception an unborn child is a human life. She writes, "What seems increasingly clear to me is that, in the absence of an objective definition, a fetus is a life by any subjective measure. My daughter was formed at conception, and all the barely understood alchemy that turned the happy accident of that particular sperm meeting that particular egg into my darling, personality-packed toddler took place at that moment." She even criticizes those within the pro-choice movement who deny that an unborn child is a life. "Any other conclusion is a convenient lie that we on the pro-choice side of the debate tell ourselves to make us feel better about the action of taking a life."

Wow! Not only does Senior admit that an unborn child is a life, but she also says that those who deny it are lying to make themselves feel better about the action of taking a life! What comes next, however, is even more shocking.

Senior seems headed in the right direction. Usually, if one comes to the realization that an unborn child is a life they reject abortion. Not Senior, however. She argues that the feminist agenda trumps life, and therefore abortion is justifiable. She writes, "But you cannot separate women's rights from their right to fertility control... The nearly 200,000 aborted babies in the UK each year are the lesser evil... If you are willing to die for a cause, you must be prepared to kill for it, too."

According to Senior, the feminist agenda must be defended at all costs -- even if that cost is hundreds of thousands of dead babies! Their brutal slayings are "the lesser evil." Such insanity reminds me of the conclusions of abortionist Dr. William F. Harrison in an article entitled "Why I Provide Abortions." He wrote, "No one, neither the patient receiving an abortion, nor the person doing the abortion, is ever, at anytime, unaware that they are ending a life. We just don't believe that a developing embryo or fetus whose mother cannot or will not accept it, has the same moral claims on us, claims to autonomy and justice that an adolescent or adult woman has."

It is hard for any decent person to stomach the reasoning of Antonia Senior. While we should all want equal rights for women, minorities, etc., it is outrageous and wrong to suggest that the feminist agenda is more important than human life. No, abortion is not the lesser evil!

Abortion and Politics

Many people want to keep politics out of the abortion issue. However, given the fact that abortion is the hot-button political issue of the day it is impossible to do so. Abortion and other moral issues have been politicized. There is no denying that fact. Does that mean they are now off limits? Does that mean we can talk about the issue but not those advocating it? We have a duty to speak out against all evil practices and those who promote them.

Below is an article entitled "Religion in Politics?" by a preacher named Dave Miller. The article was published in Reason & Revelation and was posted on the Apologetics Press website.
Many Americans will go to the polls this week to indicate their choice of political leaders. It has long been a common sentiment that "religion and politics don't mix" -- meaning that one should keep these two spheres separate and distinct, and that political preference be exercised without the interference of religious opinion. But the Bible contradicts this notion. For the faithful Christian, God's will naturally permeates every aspect of life and takes precedence over everything and everyone (Matthew 6:33). Every thought and every action is subjected to the scrutiny of Scripture (2 Corinthians 10:5). While many decisions in life are left by God to individual taste and personal preference, nevertheless, every area of life must be approached with a proper understanding of moral and spiritual principles that may impinge on one's decision-making. The Christian is free to form a personal opinion on many political questions -- from whether the government should fund healthcare, social security, and public education, to how foreign policy should be conducted. No one's soul is jeopardized by the stance taken on these matters. Nor has God ever destroyed cities or nations on account of these political concerns.
But we must face the fact that religious and moral issues are being politicized. Just because politicians seize upon these issues, dragging them into the political arena, does not mean that they are exempt from religious scrutiny. The two premiere moral issues confronting the nation are same-sex marriage and the butchery of unborn babies (from abortion to embryonic stem cell research). Like the great prophets of old (e.g., Amos 7:10ff.; Mark 6:17-18), Christians have the divine obligation to stand firm against all politicians who support such evil behaviors. Indeed, our voting should be guided by the same principle articulated by Jehu when he challenged Jehoshaphat's political affiliation with King Ahab: "Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord?" (2 Chronicles 19:2).
One cannot deny that the Democratic Party is the party of abortion, while the Republican Party is the party of life. Typically, Democratic Presidents veto bills that would restrict abortion or limit its funding, and appoint judges who will uphold the Roe v. Wade decision. On the other hand, Republican Presidents sign bills that would restrict abortion or limit its funding, and appoint judges who are pro-life. I say that not as a partisan, but as a Christian. We need to support those who most-closely reflect our values, and that is clearly the Republican Party at the present time.

I understand that both parties have their faults. The Republican Party is certainly not perfect, or even close to it. However, when it comes to the moral issues of the day the Republican Party, generally speaking, is the one that embraces conservative values. It is the one that opposes abortion, cloning, gay marriage, and other sinful practices. Vote Life!

Abortion Hurts!

The "National Memorial for the Unborn" in Chattanooga, Tennessee stands where an abortion clinic once stood. It is a place for mothers to honor their aborted babies. It is also a constant reminder of the lingering pain of abortion.

In the July 2006 issue of Think, we are introduced to a woman named Nancy Carmel, who chose to abort her baby years ago. She said that "women undergoing abortion have no idea what suffering they will encounter after the abortion, and daily for the rest of their lives, when it suddenly dawns on them that they chose to extinguish a precious life." She goes on to say that the guilt of killing your child "eats away at your soul continually, like a ravenous cancer, causing one to pray for a quick demise." The pain is only intensified by thoughts of what the child would be like. She says, "You will always wonder if the fetus was male or female, what he or she would look like. Yearly, you will mournfully recall the day your baby was ripped from your body, only to be carelessly tossed into a garbage pail at your side."

Elaine Rotondo had two abortions before giving birth to three daughters. In the January 1990 issue of Decision, she spoke of the pain she suddenly felt years after the abortions. She explained, "But driving home from the supermarket one afternoon, I found myself thinking about two other children from my past. Those two I had never fussed over. In fact, I had tried to forget them entirely. Before now I had not even called them children. I had called them abortions." She recalled pulling her car to the shoulder of the road and wondering how old they would be and what color eyes they would have. Elaine continued, "I fought off the sickening reality that was rising in my mind. The full impact of what I had done so many years before was finally upon me. 'They were alive,' I said out loud. 'They were children!'" For the first time, she acknowledged that she had taken the lives of her children and "cried out to the tiny souls who never had felt their mother's arms." She "longed for them" and "wept for a long time" wishing that the very mountains would cover her and hide the guilt.

Statistics show that many women suffer significant psychological pain after an abortion. Feelings of guilt, anger, depression, grief, regret, sorrow, shame, loneliness, etc. have all been reported. There is also evidence that suggests an increased risk of miscarriages, premature births, bleeding, and breast cancer in women who have had an abortion.

Although the actual procedure may be done in a relatively short time, the lingering pain of abortion often lasts a lifetime. Abortion hurts!

Forced Abortions in China

An Associated Press article entitled "Husband: China Forces Wife to Abort at 8 months" states that a pregnant woman in China was beaten and forced to have an abortion by family planning officials for violating the country's one-child limit.

According to her husband, the woman was taken "kicking and screaming" from their home on October 10, 2010 and detained in a clinic for three days. She was then transported to a hospital and injected with a drug that killed her baby.

Though illegal, the article states that "police and judicial authorities often look the other way when forced abortion cases are reported and the heavily censored state media shy away from such news." The woman's husband says the police told him that "family planning issues weren't their responsibility."

Unfortunately, forced abortion cases in China are not rare. A 2007 article entitled "Cases of Forced Abortions Surface in China" states that "dozens of women in southwest China" were forced to have abortions, some of whom were nine months pregnant.

The article features a woman named Wei Linrong, who was seven months pregnant when she was forced to have an abortion by family planning officials. She recalled, "The hospital was full of women who'd been brought in forcibly. There wasn't a single spare bed. The family planning people said forced abortions and forced sterilizations were both being carried out. We saw women being pulled in one by one." Another woman, He Caigan, was nine months pregnant when family planning officials showed up at her house before dawn and forced her to go to the hospital. Although the child was her first, she was forced to have an abortion because she had not married the father.

China is clearly using abortion as a means of population control. Pregnant women are being abducted from their homes and forced to abort their babies. How sad! It is hard for America to throw stones, however, knowing that many in our own country, though unforced, use abortion as a means of birth control and gender selection every day. When will the brutality end?
